Frans A. Vossenberg, M.D., FACC

Dr. Vossenberg is board certified in Interventional Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He has been in practice in Fredericksburg since 1990. His medical practice is specific to consultative cardiology, cardiac catheterization, coronary intervention, cardiac CT angiography and clinical research. He is the founder of Virginia Cardiovascular Consultants.

 



Thomas E Martyak, M.D., FACC

Dr. Martyak is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. He is an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Martyak’s practice includes consultative cardiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac catherization, coronary and peripheral vascular intervention and clinical research. He is the Chairman of the Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute and has been in practice in the Fredericksburg area for over 20 years.

 


Robert B. Vranian, M.D., FACC, President

Dr. Vranian specializes in consultative cardiology with special interests in disease prevention, cardiovascular health, cardiac risk factor modification, cholesterol disorders, hypertension and congestive heart failure. In addition to the Board Certifications in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, and he is Director of Integrative Cardiology at the Virginia Heart and Vascular Institute.  He is active in medical education and clinical research, and his practice is committed to assisting the patient and their physician in providing effective, innovative and personalized cardiovascular care.

 



S. Henry F. Clemo, M.D., FACC

Dr. Clemo is a board certified Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of abnormal heart rhythms. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Virginia and completed internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac electrophysiology at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Clemo is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Section at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Heart Center in Richmond, and continues a collaborative affiliation at the VCU Heart Center.

 


 

Dr. Jeffrey E. Askew, M.D., FACC

Dr. Askew is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Nuclear Cardiology. He has served the Fredericksburg area since 2006.   In addition to his award winning cardiovascular care, his service has also included being the inaugural director of the Mary Washington Hospital Heart Failure clinic, lecturing regularly at the annual VHVI Cardiovascular Symposium, being the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, as well as being a Board of Trustee member for Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for six years. In addition to patient care and leadership in committees, and as an example of his enduring devotion to medical education, he maintains an Assistant Professorship of Medicine for Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and will often be seen teaching VCOM medical students and pre-med undergraduates. 

Prior to coming to Fredericksburg, he served as chief of Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He was trained in invasive and non-invasive cardiology at The University of Cincinnati. His areas of interest and expertise include the powerful positive influence of eating a plant-based diet on overall health, cardiac nuclear stress testing and echocardiography, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, consultative and preventive cardiology, and clinical research.

 

 


 

Harish Chandra, M.D., MPH, FACC

Dr. Chandra is board certified in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Vascular Medicine and Endovascular Medicine. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of cardiac and vascular diseases, with interests in coronary, peripheral vascular and carotid intervention. Dr. Chandra has made available to our community minimally invasive treatment for certain congenital heart conditions like Atrial Septal Defects and Patient Foramen Ovale. Additionally, consistent with his Public Health background, he has continued to focus on preventive cardiology and clinical research.

 



Mary-Gordon B. Brown, MSN, FNP-C

Ms. Brown is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner.  She received her Master of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has prior experience working in the field of endocrinology and specializes in electrophysiology working closely with Dr. Henry Clemo.  Mary-Gordon has been with VCC since 2008. Since 2017, Mary-Gordon has assisted in monitoring patients' pacemakers and defibrillators remotely. 

 

 



Dr. Prajwal Deshmukh

Dr. Deshmukh specializes in internal medicine, cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology with particular emphasis on SVT Ablation, Afib Ablation, VT Ablation, Laser lead extraction, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation. He was formerly in Boston, MA and Buffalo, NY and has been in the Fredericksburg area since March 2019.

Mishell C. Ellis, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Mishell is a board certified nurse practitioner who completed her training at Georgetown University in 2013. She has been working with VCC since 2016 under the supervision of Dr. Henry Clemo in the electrophysiology department which specializes in implantable devices and the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias. Her previous experience includes nephrology and critical care nursing. She has a special interest in lifestyle medicine and disease prevention with plant based nutrition.

 

 



Mindi Fry, MSN, FNP-BC

Mindi came to VCC in September, 2019, working closely with Dr. Thomas Martyak. She practices at Mary Washington Hospital treating inpatients, as well as taking care of outpatients in our office. Her background allows her to treat a variety of cardiac conditions, with a special interest in woman’s cardiac health. Her previous experience was with a large cardiology practice in Pennsylvania for 9 years. She graduated from Emory University with a master's in nursing and maintains professional national licensure with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

 

 



Pamela Huffman, AGNP-BC

Pam started her nursing career in 1987. She became a board certified nurse practitioner, graduating from Walden University in Michigan in 2015. After time in the critical care/cardiac environment as an RN, she felt an advanced practice role in nursing would allow her to make a more significant impact for her cardiac patients. Working at VCC, along with working closely with Dr. Jeffrey Askew, allows her to best fulfill her goals of improving the quality of life of her patients. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

 

 



Daniel Hamilton, PA-C

Dan grew up locally in the region, graduating from Virginia Tech in 2010 with a degree in chemistry. From there, he attended Physician Assistant School at Bethel University in Tennessee. Dan joined VCC in February of 2017, working closely with Dr. Harish Chandra. Previously Dan spent three years working at Mary Washington Hospital with the Fredericksburg Hospitalist group. Dan’s special areas of interest are structural heart and interventional cardiology.

 

 



Elizabeth Bird -FNP-C

Elizabeth Bird is a board certified family nurse practitioner who has specialized in cardiology most of her nursing career. She earned her undergraduate degrees at Marymount University in 1995 and 1997. After 20 year of nursing, she decided to follow her heart and completed her graduate degree at Chamberlain University in 2018. She enjoys working closely with Dr. Vranian. She also works as a legal nurse consultant/ nurse expert witness. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nursing Association.
